The battery was flat in the remote control key to car. A friend took the battery out and told me to get it replaced. Now on enquiring from Halfords, apparently unless the battery is replaced with new one within 10 minuites, all the programme data is wiped off and key will need reprogramming. Look through the documents that came with the car.

With mine there is a handbook for the alarm system and in it there is a method of reprogramming keys. I'm not clever, one of the other BRs told me! I think it was Madf. You can re-sync the key yourself. Its only a brand new "virgin" key that needs programming with the Lexia equipment.

However, there are some occasions when the BSI unit loses the key information and it does need diagnostic equipment to re-sync it with the car.

This only usually happens if the battery is off a car for a long time though. Have a look for the nearest person on this map. They have the diagnostic equipment and will do it for "beer money":. I lent it to my sister and bro in-law whilst they were looking for another car, while they had it, it started to play up, Engine immobilizer fault came up a few times but would start after a while. I now have the car back when I collected it it did it but did start after a few mins and was fine all the way back to kent from Yorkshire even when I stopped a few times but it now refuses to start, and the immobilizer fault is constant cannot see it now as economy mode is on but it was coming on as soon as the ignition was turned ontired another antenna coil but still nothing, unfortunately I do not have a second key to try incase the transponder chip has gone.

I have tried different batteries the one on it was new last summer had it on charge, jump starts but nothing, tried the BSI reset too. When I try to start it all the warning lights apart from the charge light goes out but do flash on randomly.

Citroen Common ECU Faults

I have Lexia but it will not read the engine ECU it does see it but just a? Re: C8 2. They have a seal in the lids to make them water tight, There is a conveniently placed scuttle drain right above it, when they get water in it can cause all sorts of strange electrical problems. Tried with Lexia this morning and it will not read anything but the aux heating, I pulled the BSI if that is the one on the left of the engine bay and there was 3 corroded fuses as well as a bit of white on the board but it was dry, cleaned it up but the starter motor has now given up!!!!

When I turn the ignition on the display says economy mode then goes blank, I get a few warning bongs then all the dash displays odo and trip and lights apart from the charge light go out, guessing the BSI is toast. If I get a BSI off ebay can I re programme any one to work with my engine ecu or will I have to replace the set including the key??

The prices vary quite a lot too It should have a number on it somewhere - but this may not be the Cit part number for earlier cars. They can look ok from the top, but water ingress causes corrosion problems and you can't see it til it's too late. The most successful mod seems to be to fit a shower cap over them to keep the water out. It looks like there was supposed to be a sticker on it looking at all the ones on Ebay for sale but that is missing on mine.

I bought a new starter today but they have given me the wrong one, the pinion is too small!!! Unfortunately it's not a cheap one So, answer is it might work and let you drive it, but then again it might not The starter pinion size should not be an issue. The pitch of the teeth is generally the same and the starter motor end housing places the pinion at the correct radius from the flywheel centre.

The only time this information would be wrong is if someone fitted an incorrect pinion to the starter. The old British lucas starters were a different issue where the number of teeth was critical. As regards the immobiliser. I do not know if that will give the warning you are getting on the dash or not.

If the car is refusing to start tap the engine ECU switch off the ignition and back on again and see if it starts. If you have access to diagnostics read live data from the BSI and check that it sees a key transponder and if it recognises it as the correct one.

Read the BSI and check for faults relating to communication with the engine ECU If problems are found check the wiring and if that shows up nothing you are probably looking at changing the ecu. Buy one wherever and get it cloned off your old one. It is then plug and play and both the old and new units can be swapped anytime.

I changed the battery after 3 years because the battery kept running down after the dealer changed the engine fusebox and then the Citroen dealer told me it was no good anymore. Instead I boosted the battery with an emergancy booster which I had the sense to take with me and the car worked fine for the rest of my time in the Alps and Spain about two weeks in all. Could the problem be as simple as that? The BSI reset is not a solve all procedure, I would advise employing a good diagnostic technician to scan your vehicle and trace the fault.

The BSI reset is not a magic bullet, the battery is not the problem here you will need a reliable garage who are able to read wiring diagrames and use the correct testing equipment i.

CITROEN PEUGEOT BSI RESET STEP BY STEP / Procedure in Description

When my OH had the car a couple of years ago the same thing happened. The car was taken to the dealers and the fault was due to the air con fuse. They replaced the fuse and reset the immobiliser. I don't pretend to know why this would cause the immobiliser to lock on It then happened a second time and this time my OH replaced the fuse and a mechanic friend told him how to reset the immobiliser.

Engine Immobiliser Fault Citroen C5 Manual

I did have the air con on earlier today and turned it off when I was on my way home but we have checked the fuses and they're fine so not sure if this is why the immobiliser has become fixed on or not. The trouble is we cannot remember the way to reset the immobiliser. Tried disconnecting the battery but that didn't work. We seem to recall something about putting the key in the door and locking and unlocking 3 times but this didn't work either.

There's probably more to it than that of course or maybe you have to stand on one leg and touch your nose at the same time??!! If it works I'll try it Please help if you have any ideas, cheers. This might reset the codes. OH spoke to dealer who suggested charging battery so on with that at mo but he did tell him how to reset the immobiliser for anyone else with same problem - Put key in ignition, hold lock button for seconds then lock car and leave as long as you can so it resets itself hopefully.

It WAS the air con fuse although it didn't look like it had blown. Still cheaper than getting it transported to Citroen mind. He didn't know why it had caused the immobiliser to come on though, said they're just temperamental. Oh and while the battery was being charged inside, we left the key in the ignition and locked the drivers door while we popped out for half an hour.

The policeman had realised the passenger door wasn't locked, tried to lock it and got the key stuck. So after pulling with pliers then molgrips it eventually came out but came off from the fob at the same time. It never rainsJump to content. You currently have javascript disabled.

However, whilst i'm waiting for the part to arrive, we are using the 'standard' key, the one without a transponder in The car then started but has been stalling the original symptom to getting the data checked and no warning on the dash using the standard key. Doesnt sound like a typical immobiliser fault.

Posted 12 January - AM. Posted 22 January - PM. For any other newcomers to world of Picasso who are confused. Citroen in their infinite wisdom decided that Pics should only be blessed with one blipper key fob and one non blipper key fob.

However both have immobiliser chips in them. This chip is passive and has NO requirement for a battery. So when the battery fails in the blipper fob you can still open the car by using the key in the door, YES there is a key hole, and insert the key in the ignition and the chip should complete the imobiliser circuit and allow the car to start.

Please log in to reply. Posted 09 January - PM Can anyone please describe how the immobiliser works? I have been experiencing problems and we myself and canyondust decided the 'aerial' was faulty the part around the ignition that 'reads' the key.

Wife just called me to say the warning 'immobiliser fault' was illuminated on the dash. She had to lock and re-open using the blipper to extinguish the warning Can I ask the car not to use the immobiliser or can it be bypassed? Its a strange fault, no other faults were apparent and this kept coming back, hence the thinking of a faulty aerial. Posted 09 January - PM However, whilst i'm waiting for the part to arrive, we are using the 'standard' key, the one without a transponder in Both keys radio fob or not have a coded immobilizer chip in them.

If the code sent is the same as one stored in the BSI then the key is accepted.

This evening I was making a few stops and after getting in the car for the 3rd and what turned out the last time the car decided to just not turn on. Turn the key and nothing. There is a small "click" when you go to fire it up, but nothing else.

The key is battered. The unlock bit has fallen out, and you have to unlock the car at the drivers door. Oh, the metal bit is a bit bent, too. Could this be it, the key being knackered?

I need to dig out the spare key from somewhere, but reckon this could help? There are no buttons on that one, just the key.

Any help and reassurance that this isnt going to cost a fortune would be much appreciated. Posted 12 November - AM.
